SUMMARY:CE4EUI | Workshop: Sustainable land transport: hybrid / full electric / hydrogen / shared mobility
DESCRIPTION:Within the framework of the technical assistance provided to the 30for2030 islands and islands groups\, special attention is placed on providing the local teams with tools and knowledge to support them in the development of RE and EE projects.\nWith this objective\, the Clean energy for EU islands secretariat is organizing a series of 20 workshops over the course of three years\, to promote capacity building on relevant topics.\nThe workshops are held in person on selected islands\, and involve representatives from the island transition teams of a varying number of interested islands. A knowledge-sharing strategy is envisioned after each workshop in order for all the 30for2030 islands and islands groups to benefit from all the discussions taking place. This workshop\, focused on the topic of «Sustainable land transport: hybrid / full electric / hydrogen / shared mobility»\, is part of this series.

SUMMARY:Clean energy for EU islands forum 2024
DESCRIPTION:Discover the transformative potential of clean energy on EU islands at the Clean energy for EU islands forum 2024. Taking place in Pantelleria\, Italy\, on 14-15 May 2024\, this forum embodies the theme «The power of islands: building resilience through renewables.» \nFollowing a rigorous selection process\, 30 islands and island groups have been chosen for support in achieving a fully renewable energy supply. This year’s forum aims to convene representatives from these islands alongside key players from the EU islands community. \nAttendees can expect a comprehensive overview of the technical assistance initiatives underway and engage in discussions on relevant crosscutting issues. The forum also provides a unique platform to network with island stakeholders and gain insights into their specific challenges and needs of islands. \nKey highlights include insights from a legal and regulatory study on national policies supporting clean energy transitions on European islands\, fostering stronger relationships among stakeholders and exploring Pantelleria’s innovative approaches to the energy transition. \nWhile the event primarily takes place in Pantelleria\, Italy\, selected agenda points will be live-streamed to facilitate broader participation. Interested participants are encouraged to register with the EU Islands Secretariat for full access to the program. \nJoin us as we harness the collective power of islands to drive sustainable change in the energy landscape.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Decarbonizing Islands through hydrogen: what challenges and opportunities?
DESCRIPTION:Join Green Hysland and the EU islands secretariat to explore the transformative power of hydrogen in island communities as well as understand the hurdles and prospects. \nRenewable hydrogen is universally considered an important energy vector in the global efforts to limit greenhouse gas emissions\, with the potential to decarbonize also hard to abate sectors\, bring flexibility to energy systems\, create energy storage opportunities and enhance sector coupling. \nThis is especially true for islands\, whose territories are particularly favourable for the production of hydrogen thanks to their closeness to water\, and to their remoteness\, resulting in a difficulty to be connected to national energy grids. \nHydrogen\, on the other hand\, allows long-term storage of excess electricity\, and guarantees energy security when renewable energy production is lower\, hence energy independence from fossil fuels imports. \nThe aim of the workshop is to present what are the challenges and opportunities for hydrogen’s uptake in islands\, and the steps to integrate this versatile energy vector to their energy systems.  To do so\, 3 geographically different islands with different levels of advancement in hydrogen deployment (roadmap for hydrogen\, project planning and funding\, and project implementation) will present their best practices. \nRegister here.
